What I’ve been reading Lately

Hello everyone! For todays post I thought id do something a little bit different; a breakdown of the books that I’ve been reading lately.

I absolutely love reading; I have done ever since I was a child and I hope that I never loose that. As impressed as I am with the way that technology is, with thinks like the Amazon Kindle, and iBooks, I don’t think there is anything that could be better than settling down and open a real life book and not looking at a screen. One of my favourite things to do is snuggle down in a big chair with a massive cup of coffee (decaff) or fruity tea and get completely lost in something that I am enjoying reading.

The books that I’ve been reading lately are:

Grey; I read the trilogy of the 50 shades books (because of the hype) and wasn’t that impressed; it seemed to me a bit woolly and not really thought through. For what could’ve been a really interesting set of books I don’t think that they were really that good. I enjoyed reading them, but I think that’s because I enjoy reading new things and I enjoy a good story, more than I enjoy reading about spankings etc. So why did I buy this book? In an answer, I am a sucker for a hype. I thought that this would really go into the mind-set of Christian Grey, and why he was the way that he was; and to an extent this book did. But if you’re looking for ground-breaking literature, you probably won't find it here.

Wild; Oh my god, I could not put this book down. I originally bought this book because of the film starring Reese Witherspoon, which I enjoyed, but after reading the book I am just so in love with the story. It starts quite dark and depressing as you follow Cheryl through her downward spiral while she reminisces, and then as the book continues it just becomes so uplifting and empowering. I don't want to give too much away but it is an absolute must read.

Unbroken; This is another book that I bought because I enjoyed the film. I have to say though; I haven’t been too into this book. The story in itself is absolutely amazing, a real testament to how much people can bear in adversity, but the way that it has been told in this book is a bit too textbook-ish for me. I felt like I was reading a history book, rather than someone’s memoirs. A good read, but I’m not raving about it.

Alice in Wonderland; This is one of my favourite childhood books, and so when I saw this little duo in a second hand bookshop near where I worked I knew I had to have them. I haven’t got around to reading these yet, but I’m sure you’re all aware of the story – if not go out and read it now because you have seriously missed out.

So there’s a quick breakdown of the books that I’ve been reading (buying) recently – I hope you enjoyed!
